That’s right, not only will life be more secure as a prepper but it can also become cheaper. I started prepping because I wanted to be ready for financial hard times, or disasters, but as I became more prepared I found that I was spending less on the necessities of life. This article will outline some, but not all, of the reasons I live cheaper as a prepper. To understand this, you would have to understand how I prep. I focus mostly on food storage end of prepping. As part of my food prepping I...

This is a movement that could bring us together again as "the human race." I think there are more people doing this than we realize and those that think they should be doing it.  My family is just getting started.  My  youngest son is the one giving us the push that we needed.  I have always thought he should have been friends with Daniel Boone.  My granddaughter, who is nine, thinks a practice Bug Out would be fun. People, we have all gotten soft and live like having money, making money and...

Ladies, have you ever put a bandaid in your purse in case you get a blister? Hmm, yeah, me too. How about making sure you had cash in your wallet even when your date insists he'll be paying for dinner? Have any of you guys ever put a $20 bill in the visor just in case. I hate to break this to you....but, you're a Prepper. The only difference between you and "those" guys on the Doomsday shows is that they aren't afraid to take notes when someone suggests a new way to prepare. As for me, I've...

My son-in-law got me watching Doomsday Preppers.  I have always tried to prepare ahead for unknown situations. Watching doomsday preppers has made me more aware of how important it is to be prepared. I have never prepared like this before. I am new to this, soaking up every bit of information i can get my hands on. I do feel as part of my responsibility of taking care of my family, preparing is an important part. We are currently working on putting in a cellar as we have no where to store any...

We have been living off of our food storage since 2009, shortly after President Obama took office.  We faced two layoffs, a job injury, time off to recover from surgery, three more stays in the hospital for a stroke, a heart attack, and memory loss which my husband still suffers from. While I went to school for dental assisting, I am unable to use those skills as my husband's memory problems doesn't allow him to be left alone.  I am constantly refilling my pantry.  Everything we eat, is from...

Anyone who watches the nightly news knows the challenges our country is facing economically – especially when it comes to the high rates of unemployment. How would you react if one day, suddenly, out of the blue, you were asked to live on a fraction (a small fraction) of your salary and still had all the same bills to pay?   I have always tried to think ahead of the game called “life”.  I intuitively chose a career that appeared recession proof (little did I know) and structured my household to...

My grandma Bella, my sweet hunchbacked European Jewish war survivor. Grandma had a brand on her arm and a small old brown suitcase in her closet that contained her cherished possessions, the only three pictures of her family that remained, a blanket, some money and a sterling silver candlestick; "just in case", until the day she died.   Was she a prepper?  No, she was a survivor and she had the scars to prove it. If I asked her about prepping, I could see her smiling a weak little smile...

For the most part, the people reading these stories are already likely on the "prepper train", and each of you have good reasons to prepare for the unseen and unknown. This is my story and my reasons: After graduating from college, I ended up joining the Peace Corps. I lived in a small village in the middle of Madagascar where I was supposed to train the local community in life savings skills -- specifically I was there to teach community health. Ultimately, I left having learned so much more...

My name is Tiffany and I am 26 years old and a married mother of 3—and I am a prepper. The name “prepper” to me can be labeled on a catalog of different people.  For me it started roughly 2 years ago when we moved our family back home and my mother-in- law told me a little about it—so I was introduced in a way to it then. I started doing it about a year and a half ago without even knowing it. I began to coupon and started my 'stockpile' and I was very proud of it until I wanted to get more into...

For years I have had the fear of something happening and thought maybe I was alone in these thoughts until recently. I have been a closet food hoarder for several years but every Christmas I would box it up and donate it to a needy family. I was ashamed to tell anyone, even my husband until we saw Kellene. She gave me the courage to talk to my husband about my fears, and to my surprise, he is on board with prepping!  I have since talked to my brother, uncle and a neighbor about prepping and...
