Is Martial Law Imminent in the first quarter of 2013? Well there certainly is plenty of such hearsay going around. I can’t even begin to tell you all of the e-mails I get with the same alarming headlines each day from readers and newsfeeds. Well, here’s my simple take on all of this.

Lt. McCoy of an unknown police department in North Carolina is ostensibly a caller on the Pastor Butch Paugh radio show. I get a LOT of these kinds of e-mails, YouTube links etc.such as this one:

http://youtu.be/MAVGkU7_OQ4

O.K. now that you’ve listened to that, let’s go further just a little bit. Here’s what I think of these kinds of things.
First of all, I looked for a Lt. McCoy in the rosters of any police entities in North Carolina. I find one McCoy that comes up amidst an endless supply of copycat posters on this story. I’m frankly stunned that none of them even bothered to verify that there even IS a Lt. McCoy. Anyway, I did find one listed as a part of the Rocky Mount Police Department. The odds of a McCoy in a N. Carolina police department being random aren’t through the roof, but then again someone could have looked through the rosters online and just handpicked an alias.  This particular McCoy isn’t a lieutenant, rather he’s a captain, though this recording was published in the end of December of 2012. So I suppose there could have been a promotion, or the caller was deliberately hiding his rank?  Lots of questions still. Anyway, here are the other things I consider when I hear of this kind of stuff, including the DHS insider one that I’m sent about 10 times a day…

1) The caller COULD be a liar, just wanting attention or just wanting to mess with the peace of society.

2) The host COULD be orchestrating the entire scenario with willing actors/actresses in order to give themselves attention, viewers, publicity, etc.
3) The host could be legitimate, but the informant COULD be a plant–knowingly giving misinformation in order desensitized to this kind of thing so that we won’t fight back much.

4) The informant could be completely sincere and honest in what he/she shares but could be subjected to contrived information specifically fed to him/her in order to get the same response (s) mentioned in #3.

5) Even IF all of the information is accurate, nothing changes because all we can do is to continue to prepare. That’s what I was doing yesterday and that’s what I’m going to do tomorrow. (I was able to find a McCoy listed as an employee of the Rocky Mount PD in North Carolina, but he’s listed as a captain, not a lieutenant.

Martial law isn’t the only threat that is viable right now. Food shortage, natural disaster, economic collapse, civil unrest, rioting, etc. are all potential issues. So, take it with a grain of salt. Keep praying so that you aren’t taken unawares, and keep communicating with your family and friends so that you have the critical decisions made on how you will respond if something like this ever does come your way.  The time to decide what you will do is NOW, not in the midst of the crisis.  If it’s coming, it’s coming and it’s only the beginning of a whole lot of “woes” that we are warned we will need to endure. So, take it with a grain of salt; be prepared, be prayerful, and be at peace.

I have been suckered into so many lies in the past year I can’t tell the truth being told anymore. I wish I had bought more ammo and a few different guns. I will however try to double my stocks of other preps to 2 years now. Finances are as squared away as possible. I was finally able to talk my best friends into a BOB and storing food. I feel better for them now.

Ya Marge, its impossible to find guns and ammo in my town in Illinois too.

Deborah · January 18, 2013 at 3:43 am

This is really very scary to listen to. I really do hope its all a fake. But just incase, we will be extra careful in the weeks to come.

Marie · January 18, 2013 at 7:07 am

There does seem to be a lot of fear mongering on You Tube.

I have learned to take these kind of things with a grain of salt. I also check on the resources . Thank you Kellene for doing this for us it is greatly appreciated .

I’m so glad you talked about being leery of what you hear. I look at most of the news/videos that way now. One thing I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older is there can often be an agenda for the story that is reported.
Every day there is another doom story. They might all be true but I pray God will keep us safe. The world is a very scary place.
In the meantime my sweet potatoes are waiting to be canned and also my frozen beef. I have some water containers to fill and need to get more bandaids.
Every day is just one foot in front of the other. Every night I pray that God will guide us and protect us and show us the path to follow.
Thank you Kellene!

My better half and I are both on social security and do as much as ais possible to prepare but its not as much as we want, we do have quite a bit of ammo and different types of guns easy to carry for us, and I believe it is going to happen this year sometime but I don’t think the first quater because obama hasn’t gotten everything set into his plan as of yet, But look out!!!!!!!!

If this was true and being in Law Enforcement I definetly would have used a fake name. One so there would be no repercusion on the job front, no need to lose your job for just being honest. Plus you have no way to know how the federal authorites would react. I feel there is a real need , especially now for a whole lot more OPSEC in all the prepping activities we engage in.

    Carrie · January 18, 2013 at 6:33 pm

    Frank, what is OPSEC?

Junipers · January 18, 2013 at 6:41 pm

One can imagine this scenario unfolding, but imagination and reality are two different things. When you have a president circumventing legislation & signing off on executive orders that take away our freedoms under the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, you know in your gut, something isn’t right. How many red lines will be drawn in the sand, only to be moved over and over again, until it’s too late to do anything about it? We’ve read how HLS is buying bullets, interviewing our troops when they come home and asking them if they’d have a problem shooting a family member or friend. Is that a rumor too? Plenty of them are in circulation and if you believed in all of them, you’d go nuts! As far and my family and I, we serve but one Maste,r and that’s the Lord. We have paid off all of our debts & con’t to add items to our “pantry.” All we can do, is to pray and prepare for what is yet to come. There ARE drones flying around, all over the US. The question is “why”? Place your trust in God, but be dilegent & do a lot of research.

AutumnGal · January 18, 2013 at 10:27 pm

Carrie, if my research is accurate, o p s e c basically refers to being cautious and/or aware. I (think) that’s what he was meaning…
Personal-op; I doubt there’s much of anything about anyone those in charge don’t know or can’t find out about each of us if they felt there was anything of importance concerning that individual. In casual conversations we might perceive to be “safe”, it’s tempting to speak too freely.
My thoughts are that we should consider the value of practicing all the skills we may need in the am or down the road. Learn to convey the meaning in a way where short portions of our written words actually say very little in a “round the mulberry tree” style …. smiling here and hoping you can translate 🙂

OPSEC = Operational Security. Basicaly, don’t let people, even random people, see what you’re doing or hear what you’re talking about.

Suzie · January 19, 2013 at 5:59 am

“Op Sec” Means operatioanl security. That means don’t tell anyone outside your own household what you have in the way of preps, weapons, etc.

Glacialhills · January 19, 2013 at 5:54 pm

You can still locate ammo and some guns online. go to ammoseek.com to find out who still has some ammo locally or nation-wide and/or have them ship it to you. Some guns (forget ar15 but plenty of shotguns and good survival rifles) can be bought and shipped to your local ffl dealer for a small fee.

There are still guns and ammo to be had for a price. No bargains anymore and you just must be willing to search online and be ready to purchase at a moments notice or they will vanish. I am sure I could find just about any ammo caliber or gun in a mater of an hour search online and heck my local walmart just had 2 ruger 10/22 in the case for 254.00 a piece. I could have bought them and sold them for double that but I am not a scalper.

good luck

frank · January 20, 2013 at 6:44 pm

Yup, Operational Security, good rule of thumb is don’t let anyone know about your preps unless you want them at your door after SHTF. Better yet don’t tell anyone because you don’t know who else they will tell. Your sister or brother who you would probably take care of may be a loud mouth and tell lots of people they are not worried becasue they are coming to your house , well all those people they told that to that are starving in a few weeks will sure as hell remember what they were told and be at your door DEMANDING that you helf them. Just don;t tell anyone till you have to take care of them. And even them make sure they bring everything that will be useful with them.

    Kellene Bishop · January 21, 2013 at 6:42 pm

I disagree with this mindset on SO many levels–but then again, that should be obvious seeing as I’m out in the public everyday talking about preps. There’s no way that I’m going to be bullied or terrorized into silence. I’ve got what I’ve got and I’m prepared to defend it too. Period.

peter rogulski · October 14, 2013 at 10:27 am

what if the gun conficators
what if the gun conficators outside of cities start gurela war fare agaist the gun grabbers who are trying to conficate guns from other people who do not know who they are. i think that you will see a lot of milisa incedents and a lot of dead gun grabbers…it wont be anything like katrina. i served in vietnam for 3 years as a infantry platoon sgt., with the big red one and the 101st n airborne div. i am 75 years old now and have many health problems so iu cant run and shoot like i used to. i will have to leave it to younger gun fighters. my days of fighting are long gone by. but i pray for the young ones hopefully following in my foot steps. and that they are successful in protecting this country.

peter rogulski · November 13, 2013 at 8:41 am

THIS COUNTRY WAS WON FROM THE
THIS COUNTRY WAS WON FROM THE BRITISH WITH GUNS AND WE WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO RETAKE IT WITH GUNS, BUT I HOPE NOT BUT I WOULD BE WILLING TO FIGHT TO MY END. TO SAVE IT., NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES.
