Grandma's Room

When I was a young girl around 10, maybe 12, can’t remember back that far, my mother and I were visiting my grandmother and I remember a room she had in her single wide, 2-bedroom mobile home (not a lot of room in those). This was her only extra room. I guess she was a prepper before there were preppers.
Anyway this room was absolutely packed, floor to ceiling with bathroom tissue, Kleenex, and napkins. I was told about a time in recent history when paper products were in short supply...she vowed never to run out.
My aunt was also a prepper from way back. During the depression she went to the store to buy coffee, money was tight and she had saved enough, she thought, to buy a pound of coffee. Well, she was 3 cents short of having enough to make the purchase, which explained why in her house she always had around 10 –1 pound cans of coffee, maybe more. She never would use pennies to pay for anything- hence jars of pennies everywhere.
Since my  mother grew up during the depression, there was always a need to be prepared for the unexpected. I guess it sort of rubbed off on me a bit, because I have always bought more groceries than I needed for the week. My husband and I have gained a great sense of safety and comfort knowing that we can go for many months, if need be, without going to the store. Maybe one weekend you’re just to busy to shop, maybe you’re tired when you get home from work, maybe you just don’t feel like cooking (need water only meals), you can whip up a really nice nutritious meal in no time. You are always going to need food, why not prepare....for whatever you’re going to need.
I just can’t get that picture of my grandmothers room out of my head.

My grandma's house was the very same way. Thanks for the memory... Good Luck!
