Making your own pet food has a lot of great benefits for the person who seeks to be self-reliant, but, it also comes with serious nutritional consequences if you’re unaware. So today I’m writing a critical follow-up to yesterday’s article on making your own pet food. While the food that I suggest you use to make your own pet food does contain great nutrients for your pet, canning the food depletes some of these critical nutrients. Mineral Oiled Eggs2012 All Rights Reserved Preparedness Pro I thought I'd just share a few pictures with you so that you can see what the "old" eggs look like. I purchased these eggs the first week of February when they were on sale. I oiled them with warm mineral oil and put them in the carton and put my own date on the egg carton too. Like many, I tend to be an emotional eater. And dog-gone-it, if I want a fried egg, I want a fried egg. And no amount of seasoning of French name-calling will sufficiently entice me to mentally switch from the envisioned savor of a fried egg to settle for an omelet made from powdered eggs. Yes, this certainly is a problem if I find myself completely out of real, honest to goodness eggs!  Powdered eggs and other egg substitutes are great for baking and such, but there’s just nothing else that...

As I’ve been writing and researching recipes for my Emergency Preparedness cookbook, I’ve had an aversion to using any of my recipes which include eggs except for baking recipes.  While you can use the old egg-substitute concoction of gelatin*, or dry packed eggs, these alternatives are really only good for baking.  Dog gone it.  I KNOW that I’m going to crave real eggs in the midst of a crisis.  So I wanted to figure out a way to preserve fresh eggs for me and my family. (*Note: Egg...
