With today's escalating meat prices, I thought it would be timely to share an alternative protein source that you can easily raise yourself just about anywhere, with only 10 minutes a day of effort, and at a minimal amount of expense--Rabbits!   Rabbit meat can be used in the same manner as chicken, even going so far as frying it as you could chicken. It’s also a great source of high protein and low fat, even more important in the present economic stage, rabbits are very inexpensive to raise...

Note from Preparedness Pro: The article below is provided to us by Dennis Chalkus of  DCSurvivalKits.com He addresses the wide use of social media amidst a disaster. I personally believe that social media can easily be a reliable protocol that you can set up with your family members to use and it's one of the only ways I know to make sure that teenage family members are kept abreast of a disaster and the necessary action plans that need to be executed. How Emergency Services Across the World...

Over the past two years I’ve have noticed undeniable benefits to drinking raw milk. Doing so comes with its share of controversy. But I find it so hypocrytical of a government who gives a thumbs up to the VERY dangerous drug class of statins, but villifies raw mild. *sigh* Frankly,  I’m weary of a government (as well as uninformed friends and family) that try to tell me whether or not I can buy it, so I hope to soon be able to take matters into my own hands and produce it  myself. Yeah, it’s...

As is often the case, I received an e-mail question from a reader which required more than just a simple yes or no answer. Now that I'm receiving 500+ of e-mails a day, I'm trying to be smart in managing my time better, as such I thought it best to begin a new procedure when responding to reader's e-mails. I'm frequently asked questions which require detailed answers and yet, when I get the questions posed to me via e-mail, none of our other readers benefit from the information and I'm spending...

Organizing all of my supplies is probably the biggest focus of my life lately. I just have to have space for everything, everything in order, know what I have, and be able to rotate things well. I also tend not to do projects that are viable and worthy of my time if I have to work too hard to find and gather all of the supplies I need and then have to hassle to get them all put away too. In other words, I’m much more functional in a clean and organized environment. But my kitchen isn’t...

I love combining flavors that seem out of the ordinary only to discover that they've been a perfect match all along. This is one of those kinds of recipes and I always have the ingredients on hand in my pantry.  Ironically, this particular pie recipe originated at a time in which sugar was rationed during World War II. Yup, sugar was rationed, but maple syrup was not and though it was costly if purchased at the grocer's it was still widely available in unpopulated areas in which people could...

There are great deal of headlines making the news lately which all point towards the realistic possibility of a terrible drought. Drought, famine, pestilence—it’s not exactly something that we spend much of our days thinking about. However, in my desire to fortify my Spiritual and Mental Preparedness (the first 2 priorities of the 10 Principles of Preparedness) I indulged in some major research into the history of famines in world history and the human response to these scenarios. What I...

What does Independence Day have to do with literally, The Best Clothes Drying Rack? Well, I’ll tell ya.   Independence Day is my husband’s absolute favorite holiday all year. It also happens to be the time when I get the most homesick because in comparison to what is available here in Utah—fireworks displays that you have to fight crowds and PAY you watch—ugh!—there’s just nothing like Central Ohio. You can see masterful arrays of fireworks in a different, nearby city 3 nights in a row and...

A friend of mine had an "Iron Chef" contest in her neighborhood a couple of years ago. This dish was one of the best that night and she was kind enough to share the recipe with me. It was originally made with shrimp but I modified it so that it's shelf-stable friendly. I’ve made it several times since receiving the recipe and I love it. Unfortunately it doesn’t meet the “meat and potatoes” appetite criteria of my husband so I have to wait until he’s out of town or on a camping trip to enjoy it...

By Travis Chaffin—Guest Contributor   Food, water, and bullets are at the top of the list for the Zombie Apocalypse, because we will be hungry, thirsty, and need to shoot things.  When a group is holed up in a compound fighting off flesh starved zombies they need more, they need extra eyes.  A functional and well-designed CCTV security system can be the difference between being alive, dead, or undead.   Today we will discuss what you will need to create a zombie proof security system that will...
