Meatball Soup Recipe --    One thing I love about my good friend Shawna is that she has a lot of good recipes that are easy, delicious and can easily be adapted to be made from your preparedness food pantry.  She has shared quite a few with me over the years that I love, so keep an eye out for some more her recipes in the near future.   With Fall quickly approaching (officially September 23rd) I thought I would share one her easy soup recipes with you, which I actually enjoy year-round because...

A friend of mine had an "Iron Chef" contest in her neighborhood a couple of years ago. This dish was one of the best that night and she was kind enough to share the recipe with me. It was originally made with shrimp but I modified it so that it's shelf-stable friendly. I’ve made it several times since receiving the recipe and I love it. Unfortunately it doesn’t meet the “meat and potatoes” appetite criteria of my husband so I have to wait until he’s out of town or on a camping trip to enjoy it...

When I was 13, an elderly woman took me under her wing and taught me this "special" recipe that had been in her family for generations. My mother would then ask me to make it for her every St. Patrick's Day proclaiming "you make it better than anyone else"--yes, Mom. So, since I am quite under the...

So in the spirit of Christmas I thought I’d share with you 3 of my best recipes that I love to use at this time of year. I learn these kinds of recipes from historical...

Gotta Love That Pressure Cooker! Two weeks ago I had to make a meal, pronto, for my husband and I.  Since I had been writing most of the day, I hadn’t exactly planned anything. So at 4:30 p.m., I finally decided to rummage in my freezer to see what was available. I saw a freezer-burned ham bone. While that may not sound very appetizing to most of you, I assure you that freezer-burned meat is no problem when you have a pressure cooker.  So I placed the ham bone in some water and a couple...

Hey, it's Friday! This means that the Preparedness Pro is going to adapt one of your favorite dishes and make it with shelf-stable items that you can use with or without electricity. Today’s shelf-stable recipe is one of my husband’s favorite. It’s a mild twist on a Shepherds Pie recipe my mom used to make. However, Mom’s recipe took too much time and didn’t consist of items that I could just pull off of my shelf.  Whenever I make this for friends and family, they typically declare it as their...
