The Self-Employment Solution--Part 2

law of harvestAs I stated in Part 1 of this series, I firmly believe that there has never been a time since the sovereignty of this nation began, that has been more desperately in need of us developing the ability to support ourselves financially.  Self-employment! We must become more faithful to ourselves, more trusting of our God, and more willing to live by the Law of the Harvest if we want to break free from much of the insanity of today’s economics.  In today’s part 2 of the series I’m going to address the first TWO components that you’ll want to make sure exists in your present entrepreneurial pursuit or that which you will choose. So long as these first two components exist, you’ve succeeded where many others fail because they fall for the foolish nonsense that “hard work” can compensate for the lack of key business fundamentals. I’m talking REAL WORLD business fundamentals, not the theoretical mumbo jumbo that some college professor attempts to convince you is necessary. In addition to sharing with you what the first two components ARE, I’ll also share with you one component of business that you MUST not focus on initially. It’s a costly mistake that thousands and thousands of entrepreneurs make every year!

#1: No matter what, be sure that your self-employment choice includes a PRODUCT or SERVICE that you are passionate about. To be clear, there’s a big difference between being passionate about the PRODUCT/SERVICE—NOT the so-called potential income.  Grant it, (and YES! I meant to say "GRANT IT!") you need to ensure that you’ll get paid well and fairly for your efforts, but  if you’re not engaged everyday in your work of passion you’ll lose the heart of your business—period. Passion and excitement are the only things that are going to get you through the rough days, or the days that never seem to end. As you know, I do most of what I do on this blog completely free. I can guaran-dang-tee you that this site would have died years ago if I didn’t have a passion in pursuing it. Passion is what pays and money can always follow the passion with the right marketing. I don’t care if your passion is helping little old ladies across the street; I KNOW you can take any passion and make it pay a heck of a lot easier than taking something you loathe to do and making it work.  If you’re lacking in passion for what you do, then you’ll find yourself far too desperate for the income that you need. The drive of desperation is the most powerful Success Repellant ever made!Self Employment For Preppers

Nowhere in the scriptures does it say “work hard doing something you loathe.” In fact, I can think of at least a dozen verses that encourage us to be “cheerful”, "anxiously engaged”.  How can you expect to avoid being “weary in well doing” if you’re not driven with a passion for what you do?

By the way, if you find yourself already tied to a business that you’re not passionate about, you have two options—get out or find a way to alter how you do business so that you CAN be passionate about it. Come on, if fishmongers can turn a regular ole job into a tourist attraction of entertainment, I strongly doubt that it’s impossible to revamp your business to become a passion for you!

Now I realize that some of you might be reading this and thinking that I’m just full of bunk because there’s not a single application for a business loan that asks you if you’re passionate about your business, right? Well that’s because it’s unfathomable for a banker to believe that passion has anything to do with success. They’re all about statistics, percentages, etc. As such, they fail to recognize the value in the most important part of YOU—your heart. You can’t put a dollar value on that, as such, they don’t ask about it. Yep. That’s Banking 101 for ya. *grin*

Additionally, I’m darn certain that working at something you loathe will only drag you further away from your relationship with Deity, family and friends. But here’s a little secret for you. If you LOVE what you do, I can promise you that with the right marketing strategies and tactics, you can make a living doing it!   I’ve literally lived by the firm belief that there’s NO PROBLEM that can’t be solved with the right kind of marketing.  No problem at all—and I will respectfully refrain from giving you a litany of examples of corrupt politicians that are still in office because this statement is 100% accurate.  A person can learn the marketing skills, but what they can’t learn is PASSION!

problem solving#2: Be sure that you solve an obvious problem. Is the problem well known, or are you going to have to educate people that the problem exists?  In my opinion, there are too many obvious problems to solve; you don’t have to make your job harder by creating a business that first has to educate people that there IS a problem. Case in point—I don’t spend too much time convincing people that preparedness is necessary; instead, I try to educate those who are already there.

For the purposes of this education, I’m going to use the example of “It Works” (It Works Global)  as my “Exhibit A” so to speak. I have NO affiliation with them whatsoever, but I was specifically asked by 4 of my readers to do a “review” on their product. So I’ll be super-efficient by using them for a two-fold purpose.

It Works (aka It Works Global) attempts to solve a problem that nearly every teenager and adult believes they are plagued with today. But because It Works is able to solve this problem in a very unique manner, their representatives have a hard time containing their passion.  Seriously—I swear, nearly everyone I talked to that’s used their product sounded like they had been sucking helium--they were THAT excited and full of animation and conviction—two natural results of passion, by the way, which can’t be created by any business degree.

It Works has enjoyed some of the fastest growth of the top 50 companies in their industry throughout the U.S. as they’ve been able to successfully share an innovative solution with tens of thousands of people. Though they have many products for the purposes of weight management and skin restoration, they are best known for their “magic wraps” which are said to take inches off the body, in as little as 45 minutes, by naturally helping the body through a detoxification process that occurs wherever a wrap is applied on the body.   (Mind you those “inches” don’t come off all at once) As the toxins are released under the skin that’s covered by the wrap,” inches melt away” and flabby, lifeless skin is toned and smoothed, using natural ingredients. Sounds like a “magical solution”, right? Well, this ole gal, who has 100 pounds to lose, took the reader’s request to heart and used herself as a guinea pig.

I followed the instructions of applying the wrap and leaving it in contact with the selected skin area for 45 minutes. Then I removed the wrap, rubbed in any remaining product still lying on the skin. I measured and took pictures of my target area (the upper thighs) before the wrap and then in the morning after the wrap.  In the morning, when I measured the “after” results, this critical skeptic had some doubts that I was measuring correctly. So I had my hubby double check the tape measure because, sure enough, there was a reduction in the measurement.  (And NO way are you getting a peak at the “before and after” pics. There are just some things that are NEVER intended to be SEEN for crying out loud. However there are plenty of “brave” souls who are willing to show their before and after experiences with continual use of the wraps on this Facebook page )

To further test the experience, I also used an “It Works” wrap specifically shaped for the face. I was MOST surprised about this result because I’ve always taken very good care of my skin and even use a rather expensive skin restorative cream regularly, and yet I could tell a noticeable difference in the skin surface of my face afterwards. Now let’s be clear here for a moment—in no way am I saying that the wraps are the answer to losing weight. You just can’t defy the matters of “cause and effect” that way. However, I can totally appreciate that these wraps are an additional boost for solving a lot of problems that are presently addressed by dangerous and costly surgeries, and I can certainly appreciate the whole concept of the elimination of toxins right below the skin surface. (Toxins are indeed stored in the fat cells of the body as a means to protect the body from the impact of such toxins when they are too plentiful to be processed properly by the adrenal system. Always be sure that you drink PLENTY of water any time you’re doing any type of a cleanse.)  And to the company’s credit, they do not advise using the wraps on more than one body area more often than every 72 hours in order to avoid a common condition known as a “cleansing crisis.”*  But they succeeded in providing a solution that I didn’t even know existed! And dang it all!!! They got me!!  What was supposed to just be an innocent “product review” has now become a fun little pampering indulgence that I use every few days and enjoy far too much as it gives my weight management efforts a little more of a “visual” boost to keep me going in my efforts to try and get healthier.  (You ladies who wrote in, begging me to review this product before you spent money on it—all I can say is “Dang it! Get addicted to your own “drug of choice”. I don’t need to get addicted to it for you!)

Now…back to the purpose of this article.

The point is that the product was able to consistently deliver a solution to their chosen market. Did you catch that?? CONSISTENTLY DELIVER.  I’ve never been accused of being easily impressed, but dang it all! here was an undeniable solution that is delivered consistently and it’s those solutions that are behind the most successful businesses that you know of today. Whether that solution is feeding an entertainment desire, information, or a craving—all successful businesses are about providing solutions.  (And might I add that if you can’t properly verbalize and internalize the solution that you bring to your chosen market, then you are doomed for a business failure.)

So first—Passion! Second—Solution! Got it? Keep in mind though that the “problem” that a product or service “solves” does not need to be a painful one associated with some kind of emotional angst. For example, something as simple as solving the problem of connecting like-minded friends together in an area might be extremely valuable to all kinds of people based on their values and interests. (You know—such as those who value trying to cross-over into a self-sufficient lifestyle and are tired of feeling like they are the only ones in the world who are sane. *grin*)

I’m not finished expounding on this whole “solution” component just yet. In fact, in the next installment of this series I’m going to share with you the stories of two wildly successful women, that I interviewed, who make a living by solving very simple “problems” for people that most would overlook. Better yet, their methodology can easily be duplicated regardless of your physical fitness level, the size of your savings account, and the limited time you have to devote to a secondary income. Just one more way I’m going to prove to you that you have NO excuse for failing to achieve the level of self-sufficiency that you sincerely desire. Can you imagine being able to support a family of 7 primarily as a result of one hour of business activity a day?  Yep—tune in next time. Until then--here’s to your peaceful preparedness!

Special thanks to Bill R., an independent distributor of It Works, for providing the product samples for me to try. Please direct any inquiries you might have about this product to HIM at [email protected] for more information.   I've got enough on my plate--'scuse the pun.

*To their credit, It Works also promotes the use of vitamin nutrition, mixed greens, and a meal replacement powder in an effort to provide a more complete approach to weight loss, though I did NOT review any of those other products because I am personally eliminating synthetic ingredients from my diet and the vitamins and meal replacement powder do contain the standard practice nutritional synthetics.

Yes, It Works is a network marketing/multi-level marketing structured company. Obviously, not every MLM opportunity is viable nor is every MLM opportunity bogus either. The suggestions in this article are applicable to ANY business you might find yourself running, regardless of the specific income structure. It doesn’t matter if you choose to pursue Pampered Chef , Mary KaySunrider, Thrive Life, or Send Out Cards —just to name a few. I have no affiliation with any of these businesses other than to be a consumer/fan of their products. (I’m particularly addicted to Pampered Chef—yikes!) What matters is that you make your business selection—MLM or not— based on some key fundamental considerations highlighted in this article.

I have a question...I am self

I have a question...I am self employed and do not get a 1099..How can I prove income to sigh up for Obama Care

I doubt that even Obama

Preparedness Pro's picture

I doubt that even Obama himself knows that answer to that, but I know that I definitely don't. I would presume that bank statements would be used. But my first thought when I read this was "why would you want to?" I understand that you believe that there are penalities and such, though it's not what people understand it to be--a topic for a later time; but I also understand that you may be in a situation in which you feel you need the coverage. I'm sorry though. I just don't have sufficient knowledge of their scam...er, I mean program to help you.

I have just been told that on

I have just been told that on pages 58 and 59 of the document authorizing 'Obamacare', authority is given to the government to have real-time access to any individual's bank account, and to make electronic fund transfers from those accounts. So, if this is true,do you have any suggestions about how we could protect our business and personal bank accounts from possible government seizures? It seems like it would be an illegal seizure, but with the way things have been going..... I hope it just a rumor, but guess it is possibly true. I've worked very hard all my life and done everything right, I hate to think that the government would steal from my bank account!

This would either be

Preparedness Pro's picture

This would either be incorrect or unlawful...however, since our gov't believes they are above the law, I specifically ensure that I ONLY keep money in my accounts to cover bills AS I pay them. In other words, my accounts are typically at a zero balance except when it's bill paying time. I pay a penalty of $25 a month for that only my business, but my privacy and security is worth that.
A "bail-in" such as what we saw in Cypress and other nations is VERY likely to occur in the U.S.  It's NObody's business what I have in my account and what I spend it on...so cash is king in our house. (though we do the occassional money order)
By the way, there was a big story this week of a business that's fighting back after having the IRS sieze all the money from their business account--and why was it they did that? Because the man was making deposits no greater than $9,000. (reports are triggered once you hit transactions of $10K or more)  So in other words, because he wasn't getting himself in trouble and remaining private, he was punished. (As it turns out the reasoning for this action was because his business insurance would not cover any transactiosn over $9K!!!)

My problem is figuring out

My problem is figuring out what my 'passion' is! Oprah once did a show on this subject. She said to look back at your past and find things that you really enjoyed doing. ...

I just don't know WHAT my passion is to follow...I have been thinking about this for years... :)

Add some prayer in there. A

Preparedness Pro's picture

Add some prayer in there. A lot of people find themselves in a similar boat because they are so busy pleasing other people they aren't as in tune with their own likes, etc. Sometimes it takes actual research to figure out what one is passionate about and it grows and matures as wel do as well.

What do you do for fun? What

What do you do for fun? What would you do if you were independently wealthy and didn't have to rely on a paycheck? If you knew you could do anything without failure, what would it be?

Those might help you find your passion. (That's what I do - help people come up with ways to support themselves by self-employment.)

If you wish, there are interests tests you can take. Those normally cost so if you just do some self-examination, you can find the answer. As also suggested, prayer works also.

wishing you success

Thank you for this series. I

Thank you for this series. I've been thinking about ways to get a bit of additional income, and truly dread getting a 'second job'. I'm a right-brain person in a left-brain job already. I just can't give more left-brain time to someone else! :)
I have a few ideas, and I'll do a bit more research.

I'm glad you mentioned the

I'm glad you mentioned the MLM angle. While I was in the service, I happily went to parties and bought stuff from Pampered chef, candle parties, and even now It Works. But last year I was introduced to (redacted for spam), and with the healthcare bill looming, I am very interested in controling as much as my healthcare as possible. I tried it out as fun, like any other MLM, but the improvement in symptoms (I'm a partially disabled vet who struggles to work, luckily, I have a part time flexible job) were too much to not share with my friends and family. And its not the money, I get giddy helping people manage their migraines, and them getting better as they are sitting in front me. A year later, I find myself selling for exactly the reason you mention. Passion and consistantly delivering an alternative to doctor's and conventional medicine. I can save that trip to the doctor for serious issues. This article and series couldn't have come at a better time! Thank you!

Love this series. I am

Love this series. I am constantly trying to help people realize true freedom by helping them come up with business ideas. It is not as hard as some think. There are also a good number of jobs that people can start on a shoe-string where they do not have to risk income, can start while still at their regular job, and still have fun doing something they are passionate about.

Hello! I'm sorry to ask about

Hello! I'm sorry to ask about something off subject, but I couldn't find your contact email for some reason. Ok, so I really want to get a water filter. I would like one that would last for 10 years minimum but won't take 10 years to pay off! *sheepish grin* I have had people trying to sell me a kaegan water filter system which can be around $5,000, and that figure makes me want to faint on site. Recently, I saw a Berkey water filter advertised on heavenlyhomemaker.com, and it can be around $500 depending on the system you choose. It can filter so many gallons per hour but the price goes up based on how many gallons the reserve holds. To me the solution is simply buy a cheaper version and store the water in old milk jugs or something and not rely on the reserve. Anyway, $500 is a lot to me but I would be willing to pay for it if I knew it would last me 10+ years. There are just way too many options out there for me to be able to decipher and they all claim to be the best. Would you please direct me? I know you have knowledge and experience beyond the average consumer and you have a practical and financially sensible approach to these things :-)

Thanks so much!

As a nurse, I am super

As a nurse, I am super skeptical about things like the wrap.
However, I respect you and your opinion. Who couldn't use a visual boost to keep the momentum going!
Few questions - how long do the inches stay off? 1 day 3 days ? a wk? Is it just "water weight" ?
does your skin seem to be more "saggy" after the effects of the wrap have worn off?
Would appreciate your experience/ opinion before spending $ that could go some place else perhaps
Thanks!

Lori, as I mentioned in the

Lori, as I mentioned in the article "Special thanks to Bill R., an independent distributor of It Works, for providing the product samples for me to try. Please direct any inquiries you might have about this product to HIM at [email protected] for more information. I've got enough on my plate--'scuse the pun." Bill will be able to answer your questions. I've used the product, not mastered if, but I will say that this isn't something that "wears off" any more than lyposuction "wears off". You're eliminating toxins, so the problem will re-appear if one continues to abuse their body. Bill is really easy to talk to and you can do so via e-mail and get all of your questions answered without having to spend any $. Have fun!

Kellene I am now working on

Kellene I am now working on getting my own home based business up and running. I went back over your homebased business checklist you wrote back in 2010 and this will meet every item on the list.
The best part is I have a gal that has a very successful homebased business who has offered to mentor me with the retail and marketing. It is very exciting for me and while I'm starting off small and local I can see how I can grow using the internet and a web based store.
It has been difficult to find something I can do with the limits of my disability but I think this is business I can work even with my disability.

I enjoyed reading these

I enjoyed reading these articles and believe you have a lot to offer with these tutorials. Please continue to publish more like this. I believe you are smarter than most when you recognized the importance of opportunity over education. So many are in debt with school loans trying to find work, does it really make sense to go to school anymore? Too much employer input in our lives and not enough rewards for the average employee. I am currently trying to alter my work life to reflect more of what I value. Thanks again.

I am on fire for a stay-at

I am on fire for a stay-at-home career. For a time, I did medical transcription at home and while there was always work to do, it was very difficulty to chain one's self to a PC 12-14 hrs out of each day to be paid less than a secretary doing a traditional 9-5 gig. I enjoyed the flexibility it offered but I have to say I had no real passion for transcription - but a passion for working from home.

Reading these articles on financial preparedness and especially those on finding your calling and making it your own business, I am at a point in my life where this is more than a burning desire; it is a vital necessity - and these articles bring that into the light very well.

I wish I had clarity to really embrace what I "love" to do and make that my business - it is so hard to identify with something when we spend 90% of our day seeing to the needs of others. Praying over it, deliberating, etc. has shed no light for me - was wondering if anyone out there could share what they're doing? I would love to eventually just replace my current income (don't have to get rich here folks) and quit my invasive 9 to 5. One of my kids needs homeschooling.... it all fits. But just WHAT to do to get it off the steno pad and into reality? And does it all need to be internet based? I need brain stormers and suggestions from veterans!!

My strength really lies in organization - for the home mostly but i have implemented organization systems at places of employment, it mostly enjoy it for the home. Organization comes naturally to me, but my personal passion is really interiors.. making them hugely functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. Any thoughts out there? And just how to does transition from their full-time gig into the home-based enterprise without losing everything? THANKS in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond! LOVE LOVE this site!

When is the next installment

When is the next installment coming? I left my job two years ago and would LOVE it if I didn't have to go back into the work force.

I have not left my job yet

I have not left my job yet but I would in a heartbeat if I could replace my income working from home, and that should be doable given the fact that I don't make that much to begin with, but I do need what I'm making now at minimum. I am eager for another installment of this topic!!

Coming this week!
