An Interesting Article on Our World's Food Shortage

Food Shortages in the World

Food Shortages in the World

Man, sometimes I wish I could write like this. Then again, I bet some of you wish I did with all of the "supporting information" right there at your fingertips.

I would say "enjoy the article" but I'm not sure it's exactly an article one can "enjoy"

without the infringement of at least some concern.  At least it will assist you in being better informed and aware.

Hi Kellene,

I appreciate your website, and in the recent past thought it worthy to add as a link on the Technorati tag article that I wrote on emergency preparedness here: http://technorati.com/r/tag/emergency-preparedness.

I didn't know of another way to contact you, but I would like to ask if you would be willing to put a link on your website to mine? My themes are varied: emergency preparedness/food storage/do-it-yourself/outdoor survival/self reliance.

You know he really had a good article till he brought up all the co2 global warming nonsense. There is plenty of evidence out there showing that co2 is not bad. There is also plenty of proof that wind power or solar are not the answer.

We have a power source with the ability to make all the fresh water we need as well as cheap, reliable, energy with little waste or emmissions. It is nuclear. Nuclear plants along the coast could produce huge amounts of fresh water from sea water. California and all the other nations would be able to solve their water problems. Plus with cheap power how much more industry could these poor nations support?

I think he raises really good issues, he ends up with the wrong solution.

Did you all catch the population control bit?

Yeah, I agree with your two issues exactly, Todd. I was more fixated on the other issues backing a food shortage issue.
I often wonder if there's not more to this food shortage stuff...will the "lack" of food be used as a weapon against us? Could that possibly be why Clinton passed a bill against "hoarding" of food?

This article proves that every step we take, as little as it may be every day we need to be doing... well exactly what we are doing. The less dependent on world markets and hone in on self reliance...the better we are.

Back to my Cheese!

Sorry the global warming is a sore spot with me.

I think that controlling food is a weapon. Our food aid works to prevent local farmers growing food. Who can compete with free? That was one of the first things we attacked in Iraq the first time. We tried to starve the entire country.

I'm glad i'm putting wheat and other stuff away, it is cheap enough to put a lot of it back. Passport to survival that I WON! is fantastic. I'm packing some buckets with DE this weekend. I might still use liners as I have them and I'm not sure my buckets are food grade.

I was not aware of the hoarding bill.

Global warming is a crock to me as well...just one more bit of social engineering.
If your plastic buckets have been cleaned, then they are food grade. But it's not like it will hurt for you to use liners.
SO glad that you like the book.

I couldn't agree more with Todd - the Global Warming boogeyman is beginning to get very old. Temps are actually dropping since '98, and while some glacier are melting back, no one - NO ONE - is talking about the expansion of the Antarctic ice sheet. Oh, and how about the fact that higher CO2 levels INCREASE plant growth?

Nonetheless, many millions will starve to to NATURAL climate change, to over-farming and the overuse of water resources. That's a damned tragedy, and it is a reason to ensure one's own supplies, and to do so at today's prices.

I will be planting a couple of fruit-bearing trees, and hopefully some vegetables come the spring, plus buying some rice, beans and wheat.

I have been hearing about these food shortages quite a bit for some time now with the shortages in grains, and the situation in California where essentially the federal government is shutting down food production in the San Juaquin Valley.
The wheat exporters, China, India, U.S.A., Argentina, have all turned to importing instead of exporting. The huge surpluses of wheat and corn that the U.S. has had are gone.

My question is: How long do you think it will be until it all hits the fan, and there is little or no food available?

My other question goes along with the other article you posted about the collapse of the dollar. It is: How long until that happens, in your opinion?

My last question has to do with both of the others. Which should you concentrate more on, getting your food storage, or paying off debts? I have been paying more than the minimum amount on my debts, but my biggest priority has been food storage.

Anyway, thanks for the articles. They are very appropriate for what is going on in the world at this time.

Desalination plants... especially for the oil rich countries of the middle east. Why are they not doing this? Yes it's expensive, but what's the alternative?

Quite a few of us in America are "suffering" from Global warming this week. Mt,ID,CO That I know of, and for goodness sake they opened a skislope in Vegas. I didn't even know there was a ski slope in vegas.
Cool Global warming ushers in earliest ski season ever.

I'll throw my thoughts in on what we are trying to do. I've been putting back food. We try to do what we can to get rid of debt. however I think food is more important. We can always move with family should the bottom drop out. Then again imagine the dollar collapses. What are the odds that banks will forclose on every home with a mortgage? No one will be able to pay them. it would be better for them to let people stay in them and keep up the property than to have them vacant.

I don't know when, honestly i think the dollar could go at any minute. The only thing that gives it value is that everyone is willing to accept it. The day that changes it is worthless.

I certainly don't believe in fear. I believe in action and the ensuing peace that comes with that. So understand that when I say the following:
As I've tried to share earlier, I feel that the collapse of the dollar is imminent and the need for food and other supplies is as well. WHEN, not if, the dollar collapses it will cause a shortage fo goods, lawlessness, and a great deal of chaos. That's what we need to be prepared for immediately. However, according to the scriptures there is a great deal more trial to come. I think the Swine flu hoopla/vax will play into it as well. I 100% believe that Americans particularly are in for a whole new way of life very soon.

Todd, I thought the same as you for a moment...but keep in mind what desperation does to people. It makes them behave irrationally. They (the mortgage companies) may not get money initially from people who can't pay due to the decline of the dollar, but out of desperation they may resort to fearmongering by paying desperate people money to shake down homeowners and spreading the word of "homeless people" littering the streets. I'm not putting the very eloquently, but the bottom line is don't underestimate the desperation and thus abundance of stupidity that will inevitably abound in a currency collapse. So I encourage folks to still strive to pay off everything they can after they have their necessary supplies in order.

I totally agree Todd.... the GW hit the pit of my stomach and made me ill.

This time of year is normally maybe a light frost once, then after Halloween is when it really turns cold at night. We had 2 inches of snow last week and 20 ies at night... That is January weather! We have had one resort open at Tahoe and another snow storm on the horizon Tuesday!

Hmm..

Thank you Todd & Kellene for your replies. I, too, believe that it is not if, but when. I know that none of us know when these things will happen for sure, but I can't see how things can keep going as they are now much longer. I think as far as getting prepared, the time is about over. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think so.

Thank you for all of your imput.

Believer

Somebody find out where Al Gore is? He's like the winter king/Jack frost. Wherever he goes it get's nasty cold weather. I think God is messing with him, in a humorous sort of way.
I am a conservationist, not an environmentalist.

I cracked up when he used Texas as an example of wind power. I live in Texas and my dad works with a power company. Wind power is only as good as the amount of wind you have. Down in S. Texas, heat waves usually coincide with NO WIND. Despite having some of the largest wind farms in our area, we had about 1% of our electricity supplied by wind power during a huge heat wave over the summer. Most people never realized the whole state almost blacked out several times. ;-)
